Air Spindles
Air Spindles or Air Gauges are the most simple and rugged tool for dimensional inspection in production lines. Manufactured with high grade steel, they do not have any moving parts and may be used continuously in floor shops and other severe industrial environments. Each air gauge is manufactured for a specific dimension and usually will allow only inspection of a short tolerance range. Typical measurement range is ±0.050 mm so it is suitable for measuring parts with good surface finish, such as cylinders, shafts, etc. Complex shape air gauges can be manufactured for inspection of profile tolerances, run outs, position and alignment. Typical application are inspection of inner diameters, outer diameters, circular run out and conicity. The proper use of air spindles requires an air-electronic equipment (see Metrolog® air-electronic columns) and two masters for calibration. |
