Typical dimensional measurement applications
Air-electronic technology
High precision measurements in production lines can be accomplished with the use of air-electronic non-contact systems, contact electronic systems (using displacement transducers) or even a mixture of both technologies The use of air-electronic measurement systems are well suited for high volume production lines due to its high ruggedness and high precision under wide range of environmental conditions. Metrolog's equipments should be used with one or more air-electronic devices, as well a proper mechanical fixture based on the part geometry. Below a few examples of typical measurement applications using air-electronic technology: |

| Inner and outer diameters: one of the most common applications; it uses a pneumatic tool with two jets (air spindle for inner diameters and "C" snap gauges for outer diameters). | ![]() |

Circular run out and circularity: rotating the pneumatic measurement tool or rotating the part, it is possible to measure the circular run out or circularity of shafts and holes. |
| Conicity, cilindricity and straightness: using the same setup applied to inspection of circular run out, it is possible to check conicity when longitudinally translating the part inside the pneumatic measurement tool. | ![]() |

Thickness: it uses the sample principle of outer diameters measurement. Usually a "C" snap gauge with two jets is used to continuous measure thickness. |
| Perpendicularity: this measure may be obtained using dual or quad jet air spindles. The perpendicularly measure is the result of pressure difference of opposite jets. When using the dual air spindle is also possible to measure the relative part inclination. | ![]() ![]() |

Flatness, rectitude and surface profile: one of the most simple setup it uses a single air jet perpendicularly positioned over the part surface. |
| Holes center distance: the use of two dual air spindles perpendicularly positioned on a base fixture allows the measure of center to center distance of two holes. | ![]() |

Matching: a very important industry application it usually employs one air spindle and one "C" snap gauge to measure the gap/interference of two matching mechanical components. |
